Health Benefits Of Pita Bread
Seems recently we’ve been bombarded with TV and journal advertisements singing the praises of whole grains pita bread and that we can add a lot of them to our diet for good health. However, selecting an actual “whole grain pita bread ” can be confusing – you have to read the labels on the back side of the package carefully to be sure your food preference is whole grain and not a “refined grain”.
To make it more confusing, some whole grain options are not as significant for us as others, and keeping serving sizes is essential. Let me share my view with you then what I advise about adding whole grains pita bread to their diet – how much they should eat and which ones have more significant health benefits than others. Before that, let me explain the dissimilarity between whole and refined grains.
Whole Grains vs. Refined Grains
If you see many peoples, you might feel that a dark loaf of bran-containing bread is a healthy, whole grain product. Well, it might be, but it may also be refined grain that was shaded by molasses with a little bran added afterward. To know for certain, you have to read the label and read “whole grain” wheat, rye, etc detailed as the foremost ingredient. Here’s the dissimilarity between whole and refined grains:
Whole Grains
Include the whole grain kernel, the bran, embryo, and the endosperm, separately parts having protein, B vitamins, or fiber. Whole grain examples:
• Whole wheat flour, whole cornmeal, whole rye flour, brown rice, oatmeal, bulgur, barley, whole grain pasta, and exact popcorn!
• Amaranth, quinoa, sorghum, triticale, millet.
Refined Grains
These cereals have had their bran and embryo sacked in the milling process. This makes a fluffier texture but also extracts B vitamins, iron, and fiber. The B vitamins and iron are counted back in the processing but not the fiber. These contain:
• White flour, white bread.
• Most breakfast cereals unless they remark “whole grain” on the box/label.
